Some fun at the Escape Room in Spokane Valley. Two rooms, two successful teams. Of course we all won, we are Nighthawks 😉#NighthawkProud
Middle and high school athletes must be registered for their respective sports using Final Forms. There are parent and athlete components that must be completed before the athlete can participate.
Athletes planning to participate in volleyball, basketball, and track must complete Oakesdale's Final Forms. https://oakesdale-wa.finalforms.com/
Athletes planning to participate in football, wrestling, high school baseball, or softball, the Final Forms for Colfax must also be completed. https://colfax-wa.finalforms.com/
Athletes planning to participate in middle school baseball, the Final Forms for GarPal must also be completed. https://garpal-wa.finalforms.com/
All athletes must have an up to date (within one year) physical as well. Those should be uploaded into Final Forms or turned into Mr. Moore. #NighthawkProud
The Spokane National Guard invited all college and high school educators to experience an exhilarating helicopter flight over the Spokane area. All that was required was that the participants learn about the opportunities available in the Guard. An approximately 30 minute flight out of Felts Field on a Chinook Helicopter was enjoyed by about 60 Spokane area educators. Oakesdale’s Mr. Reed and Oakesdale’s great friend, LaCrosse’s Miss Titus (who also wrote this) enjoyed the ride. #NighthawkProud
Hey Everyone,
Here we are in August, so it is time to start thinking about school. Here are some pieces of information for you.
1. If you are not returning to Oakesdale and are receiving these alerts via email, text, and/or the app; your information will be removed from our system once records are requested and entered at your new school. In the mean time, there are "opt out" methods on the email and text deliveries. If you don't want app alerts, delete the app or turn alerts off on your app.
2. Registration and school photos will take place on Thursday, August 15th, from 9-4. Anne Hockett will be taking school photos that day.
**Side note-while it seems like in this day and age of technology we would have a program, such as Qmlitiv, that would make online registration a simple process that makes life easier for you and us here at the school. Qmlitiv is far from that program, yet is the program assigned to the school for student data management. That all being said, there is NOT an online registration option. Forms will have to be completed by hand. It is what it is.
3. The school supply list is included in this post (the 5th grade list got cut off a bit...it also has water bottle, snacks to share, and an pencil box/bag). There is not a list for high school as students know what they need for their classes by that point. Honestly, they know in middle school too, but there is a generic list.
4. Open House dinner will start at 5:30pm on Tuesday, August 27th in the cafeteria. Quick introductions will be at 6pm then everyone will head to classrooms. All teachers of all grades will be here and provide information you may want. Everything will wrap up no later than 7:30. Remember, bring school supplies so you can get everything put away.
5. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 28th and it WILL be a late start day. School will start at 9am.
6. The school year calendar is posted on the website in the NEWS section.
7. There are already MANY events in the school calendar for athletics, etc. Take a look and put them on your calendar.
That is all for now. Enjoy August. #NighthawkProud
While it may be hard to believe, over the summer teachers often go back to school. This
summer, Mr. Reed, Mrs. Warwick, and 2024-25 History student teacher Miss Abigail Mein
(WSU), spent a week in Spokane with other history, civics, and social studies teachers from
Washington and Idaho immersing themselves in a civics program called, “We the People.”
“We the People” is a civic education curriculum funded with a grant from Georgetown
University in Washington D.C. The curriculum teaches about the history and principles of the United States constitution to students in elementary, middle, and high school. The program's goal is to help students develop the skills they need to be effective citizens by enhancing their understanding of American constitutional democracy and the relevance of the Constitution andBill of Rights.
The training was an intensive 5-day event that culminated in the three teachers competing in a mock hearing before judges in Congress. They plan to bring their new curriculum back to Oakesdale Middle School and High School and have the students use the knowledge that they gain to compete in competitions as well. #NighthawkProud
Congrats to Mr. Moore, Oakesdale's new Athletic Director. #NighthawkProud

Much fun was had at the beach yesterday in Mrs. Shropes classroom. #NighthawkProud
Congrats to the OHS Class of 2024! #NighthawkProud
Bring a camping/lawn chair (we do have some bleacher seating, too) and join us on the football field as we celebrate the Class of 2024. The ceremony starts at 11am. We will have a shuttle available to drive those who need assistance onto the field, just wait on the bench by the cafeteria doors. It will be a great day! Congrats to the Oakesdale High School Class of 2024! #NighthawkProud
The PE and Band class work crews were busy this morning. #NighthawkProud
Tonight we celebrated the accomplishments of many. Students in grades 6-12 received recognition for efforts in academics, extracurricular, leadership, and athletics. Mostly though, tonight recognized our senior class. #NighthawkProud
Senior spotlight:
Will Lanius
Hi Will! You are our last senior spotlight of the school year! Better get to it before the year passes us by:
First off, when you’re not senior-ing, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Farming, whether it’s real life or farming simulator.
Sounds about right. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? The River.
Excellent choice! Looking back, do you have a favorite HS memory? Basketball bus rides, listening to music and singing our lungs out.
Sounds like a ball…get it? You are Big Will amongst our younger students. Any advice for them? Don’t be like me and be good in school. It’s not worth being a pain in the rump.
If only students could figure that out early on. That’s good advice! What’s your plan following graduation? I plan to farm with my Uncle Josh until I can’t farm anymore.
What do you love about farming? Don’t have to be around people but I do get to be around my family.
Sounds legit. Graduation time is upon us! Best of luck, Will, in all your future endeavors!
Senior spotlight:
Tristen Burd
Hi Tristen! Let’s get right into it…
First off, when you’re not senior-ing, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? I like to play video games, practice martial arts and spend time with family.
Ohh Cobra Kai! What is your favorite form of martial arts?
Wrestling
That’s a good one! You are one of our amazing Skills Center students! What is your favorite part of collision repair? Probably fixing something that has been broken.
Ah yes, very satisfying. What is one fun fact our audience might not know about you? I don’t know…I’m pretty honest about myself.
Ok then, what’s your spirit animal? A Bear, any bear.
Why bear? We’ve got a lot of similarities: big, strong, and sleep for half the day.
Hibernation is key. Looking back, do you have a favorite HS memory? At the Skills Center, I had a pile of filler dust in my hands and was pretending to put it on my friends back. They turned around and knocked it right into my face. I had to rinse it all off, not what you want on your face.
What advice do you have for our younger students? Get your volunteering done early in your high school career.
That is VERY good advice! What’s your plan following graduation? To go into the workforce. Probably something in autobody since I have the experience from the Skills Center. If not, I will become a bouncer.
The wrestling will come in handy for that. Thanks, Tristen! Have a great rest of your senior year!
The Activity Club went on their annual camping trip this weekend to Hells Gate State Park. In the trip they hiked, cooked over a fire, learned camping safety, leave no trace principles, and took a dip in the lake. It was a great time. Thank you to Mrs. Warwick and Mr. Strong for leading the club and the trip. #NighthawkProud
Join us for the Senior Sendoff and hear the pep band, downtown on Wednesday, May 22nd at around 2pm. Let's send the seniors off like only Oakesdale can. #NighthawkProud
We had a fun concert and art show last night! Great job #NighthawkProud
Senior Spotlight:
Samantha Holling
Hello, Samantha! It is mid-April and Graduation is approaching quickly! We know you are busy but let’s chat:
You are known locally as a bit of an animal whisperer. What is your favorite characteristic about pigs? How personable they are and their individual personalities.
So cute! Ok, what is the most challenging part about pigs? The hardest part working with pigs is the taming and training process because it can be time consuming and frustrating but the results are worth it!
Patience pays off. You have been very busy with various clubs, activities and sports in HS. What would you say to younger students to encourage them to get involved? Do it. Get involved. There are so many good opportunities. You don’t know what you like until you try it and you get so much out of it if you apply yourself.
Excellent. Do you have a favorite HS memory? My favorite memories have been at FFA Conventions and State sport events.
Ah, memories. Alright here we are, what’s your plan following graduation? I will go to the University of Idaho and major in Ag Economics with an emphasis on Business. Also, I plan to get a Minor in Accounting
You will be busy! What got you interested in that field? I would like to get a job where I can work with farmers in the AG field.
Why does this interest you? I have a strong passion for agriculture and I like working with people.
Sounds about right, Samantha! Good luck with everything! We are proud of you!
Senior spotlight:
Bri Henley
Hi Bri! We are over halfway through your senior year! Let’s chat:
First off, what is something people might not know about you? I wish I would’ve grown up in Oakesdale during my younger years. I would have liked to be around the farming lifestyle. That’s how I hope my kids grow up.
Ohhh, love that! Second, what is your Dutch order. Medium blended golden eagle.
Yummmm. Looking back, do you have a favorite HS memory? Probably just growing closer as a senior class.
That is fabulous! Ok, time to wrap up. What’s your plan following graduation?
I plan to play volleyball at Spokane Falls Community College while working on prerequisites for Ultrasound Technology. After that, I will head to Alabama to attend the Institute of Ultrasound Diagnostics. Once that is finished, I can work in any hospital they approve of. I’m thinking of doing phlebotomy first, that way I can work at a hospital drawing blood, making money while studying for my degree.
So cool! What made you want to get into that? Mom and I were both thinking about it, actually. I want to go into the medical field to help people. This will hopefully not be as heartbreaking as some of the other fields.
Good luck, Bri, in all your future endeavors! You will be missed here at Oakesdale! Go Bigfoot!
Senior Spotlight:
Jaxon Eads
Hey JEADS! Halfway there! We know you are busy but let’s chat:
Let’s begin with the most important question, what is your spirit animal? I’m gonna have to say a mule deer. They are straight up smart and very curious which makes them hard to hunt. They are close enough for you to see but they keep their distance. Some people are like that, keep their distance to keep themselves safe.
Are you one of those people? Yes.
Would you be hard to hunt? Yes. I would survive in the hunger games.
Good to know.
Do you have a favorite HS memory? (As he thinks about this, Jaxon mused how senior projects makes him think so deeply and now that is the only way he can think. It took him a LONG time to answer this question.) Daxton, Logan and I were building fence this summer. Daxton hit himself in the shin with a sledge hammer, it was so funny! He was ok but there was a string of colorful words.
Well, that was worth the wait. Alright here we are, what’s your plan following graduation? Hopefully, get a General Welding certification at Oxarc in Spokane. Then I hope to work until January and go on to the GAP Program.
OOHHH, what do you get to do? You do three months of studying the bible and learning how to serve people. The next three months you will travel to another country for example Norway, Latvia or Germany to serve there. When we get home, we work at a summer camp in the Dalles, Oregon.
Sounds fabulous!
Way to be, JEADS! Best of luck in all your future endeavors!
Senior Spotlight:
Payton Davis
Hey Payton and Happy Holidays! Can you believe we are almost halfway through? We know you are busy but let’s chat:
Let’s begin with the most important question, what is your Dutch order? Peach Ring Rebel. Blended.
Sounds delicious! What is it? It tastes just like peach ring candy. I think it’s Red Bull blended with peach and vanilla flavoring.
We could all use more peach ring in our lives. Do you have a favorite HS memory? Yes! Daxton dove head first into the hot tub fully clothed that night.
Wow. I think you kids might need to get out more ☺ Anyway… you are one of the strongest athletes we’ve seen at Oakesdale. How do you balance school and sports? I get schoolwork done in class, because if I don’t do it now, I won’t have time later. Mom taught me that academics are important and I will use this foundation later on in life.
Nice! Now I’m curious, what’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned this year? Probably the resumes, practicing interviews, and job shadows we’ve done in Senior Projects. That sets us up for the future.
Such a cool class! Alright here we are, what’s your plan following graduation?
I plan to attend Central Washington University, with a scholarship to play volleyball. I plan to study Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensic Science with the hopes of becoming a Coroner.
Morbid! What got you interested in that field? I’ve always been fascinated by that! It started with the Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy documentaries on Netflix. It’s not something people would expect but it’s a job that’s needed and can ultimately be very helpful.
Indeed! Way to be, Payton! You will be missed!
