Senior Spotlight:
Payton Davis
Hey Payton and Happy Holidays! Can you believe we are almost halfway through? We know you are busy but let’s chat:
Let’s begin with the most important question, what is your Dutch order? Peach Ring Rebel. Blended.
Sounds delicious! What is it? It tastes just like peach ring candy. I think it’s Red Bull blended with peach and vanilla flavoring.
We could all use more peach ring in our lives. Do you have a favorite HS memory? Yes! Daxton dove head first into the hot tub fully clothed that night.
Wow. I think you kids might need to get out more ☺ Anyway… you are one of the strongest athletes we’ve seen at Oakesdale. How do you balance school and sports? I get schoolwork done in class, because if I don’t do it now, I won’t have time later. Mom taught me that academics are important and I will use this foundation later on in life.
Nice! Now I’m curious, what’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned this year? Probably the resumes, practicing interviews, and job shadows we’ve done in Senior Projects. That sets us up for the future.
Such a cool class! Alright here we are, what’s your plan following graduation?
I plan to attend Central Washington University, with a scholarship to play volleyball. I plan to study Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensic Science with the hopes of becoming a Coroner.
Morbid! What got you interested in that field? I’ve always been fascinated by that! It started with the Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy documentaries on Netflix. It’s not something people would expect but it’s a job that’s needed and can ultimately be very helpful.
Indeed! Way to be, Payton! You will be missed!
Today it's all about Chef Kim! We all know how amazing she is and how well we eat. Thank you, Kim #NighthawkProud
Every month, Mrs. Fleming does a Senior Spotlight. As we approach the final weeks of the school year, we will be posting these spotlights that have been done throughout the year. They'll be posted in the order that they have been done this year. The interviews are pretty entertaining and you can definitely see/hear the voice of the students in each of them. #NighthawkProud
Senior spotlight:
Karl Cooper
Hi Karl! Can you believe it is November already? Let us hear some of your senior wisdom:
First off, when you’re not senior-ing, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Tinkering with my dirt bike.
You do a lot of motocross! What has it taught you? Mistakes are going to happen and you have to figure out different ways to get around them.
Wow, yeah that’s very good! Where is your favorite place to be? The race track.
Sensing a theme here. What has been your favorite track? Airway Heights Motocross Track
Nice, keeping it local! Looking back, do you have a favorite HS memory? Making lunch with Alex and Will.
Ah yes, lunch time is a pivotal part of the day. Through your hard-earned senior wisdom, what advice do you have for our younger students? Don’t get behind in school, it’s a lot harder to make stuff up then it is to stay on top of it.
Ain’t that the truth?! You have done well with that throughout your high school career. What is your plan following graduation? I will join the heavy equipment operator’s union out of Spokane, WA.
Sounds like an excellent plan! Good Luck, Karl! You have been a wonderful member of our school community!

Senior Spotlight:
Daxton Chappell
Hi Daxton! We are a couple of months into your senior year. We know you are busy but let’s chat:
Let’s begin with the most important question, if you could choose a spirit animal to be your constant companion, what would it be? A Llama. Oh…why a llama? Why Not?
Touché. Do you have a favorite HS memory? Stinking Will’s kitchen up with fish during lunch. I used to cook it on his stove and make his whole house stinky. Every lunch last year.
I’m sure his mother appreciated that. You have greatly improved your academic performance throughout your HS career – what’s your secret? I’ve realized how important it is. Especially after I got injured last year. I thought I should step it up since I’m only in high school once.
Most excellent. What’s your plan following graduation? I would like to attend a trade school for electricians and get an apartment in Spokane with LogiBear.
God be with us all.
Go, Daxton, Go!!

FFA Plant Sale...8am at the greenhouse! #NighthawkProud
Some days are tough. Today we did what we needed to support the staff and students. From it being Superhero day, to students having a BBQ, to puppies roaming...we all had time together. Thank you to the school neighbor for the baked treats; thank you to Colfax for sending the superintendent, elementary counselor, and school psychologist. Our Nighthawk staff is incredible, our students are strong, and we love you Mrs. Zornes. #NighthawkProud

Senior spotlight:
LOGAN BROWN
Hi Logan! You are the first senior spotlight of the year! To quote the infamous Black Eyed Peas, “let’s get it started, ha, let’s get it started, in here”…Ok, here we go:
First off, when you’re not senior-ing, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Playing video games.
Which game is your favorite? FORTNITE
Nerd. You are a known food connoisseur, what is your all-time favorite snack food? GOLDFISH. I love goldfish.
And goldfish everywhere collectively shudder. Looking back, do you have a favorite HS memory? In PE, I accidently threw a paddle straight into the air. I ducked but it nearly decapitated Daxton.
What advice do you have for our younger students? Don’t leach off of friends in class, because you don’t learn anything.
I’m sure you’re not speaking from experience. That’s good advice! What’s your plan following graduation? Attend a good four-year college for either engineering or diesel mechanics.
What’s your dream school? University of Idaho.
Go VANDALS! Good luck, Logan, in all your future endeavors!
A big day in Oakesdale! Not one, but two state send offs!! Today our Math competition team left for the state event in Ellensburg with Mr. Strong and Mrs. Lisenbee; what a fun suburban ride that will be. At the same time our many students who qualified for the State Agriscience completion in Puyallup, headed out with Mr. Moore at the wheel and Mrs. Moore left to control the masses on the bus. Both groups will do great! #NighthawkProud
The energy in the gym is exciting today. Students are preparing for "Oakesdale on Broadway," this year's talent show. Join us tonight for the show, starting at 6:30pm in the gym, as we watch the great talents of our students of all ages. #NighthawkProud
